iROKO, the popular entertainment streaming service in Nigeria, has released an Android app for its popular music service iROKING this week, letting users stream and download both music and music videos.

Creating Africa-for-Africa content, the company hopes to serve the great demand for local content. iROKING CEO Michael Ugwu says that the company’s “users are fanatical about Nigerian music and they want to be able to access the freshest tunes and videos, as soon as they are released and on the go – anytime, anywhere, so [iROKOING] really hope[s] that they love the new App – it was built with them in mind”.

Ugwu added:

“I’m excited to be announcing the official launch of the iROKING Android App. It’s been a long time in the making and the hard work and attention to detail has paid off. The functionality is awesome and the whole user experience is seamless – this is the future of how Nigerians will access music and videos.”

It’s great seeing streaming services, especially the ones serving local content, on the rise in Africa as there is a huge demand from local fans and the diaspora.

The iROKING Android app is available on the Google Play Store and offers these features:

  • Download the latest releases directly onto an Android phone
  • Browse through thousands of tracks
  • Download and watch music videos
  • Share tracks and music videos with friends via email, Facebook and Twitter
  • Listen to play listed iROKING tracks offline and on the go
