The nine-day tour will involve trekking a mobile office to eight corners of the Western Cape province where entrepreneurs can go and pitch their business ideas. Applicants that prove impressive will receive a boost to their enterprise in the form of access to further training programmes. Councillor Garreth Bloor, Mayoral Committee Member for Economic, Environmental and Spatial Planning further details the initiative’s approach:

“Heading to eight different locations, we as a City will expose entrepreneurs and potential entrepreneurs to the possibilities of starting their own business by helping them to identify opportunities, giving them necessary skills and leaving them with information about support offered by various Enterprise Development Organisations with which to succeed.”

Through initiatives like these MEDO reckons it will be able to further its goal of assisting and enabling entrepreneurs to expand on their ideas and businesses. The organization’s values supports its BBBEE and broader investment priorities.

As MEDO CEO Judi Sandrock says:

“By assisting like-minded entities such as The City of Cape Town, MEDO is able to implement programmes such as this that take grassroots entrepreneurs with small enterprises and mould them into sustainable businesses able to create long-term employment in their communities.”

Sandrock also notes the initiative’s commitment to give areas needing entrepreneurial support the opportunity to access information that will enable them to expand their businesses. “We look forward to meeting many entrepreneurs on this trip and being able to offer the cream of the crop the opportunity to truly advance both their businesses and lives.”
