Movile aims to connect global devs with Latin America’s booming smartphone market

To give global app developers a chance of accessing Latin America’s growing smartphone market, IT company Movile recently announced a unified app marketplace that aims to connect and improve relationships between distribution parties.

This new platform, called Movile Marketplace, lets Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) and carriers choose to preload apps that developers have uploaded onto a central site.

The Marketplace leverages Movile’s relationships with carriers and OEMs to bring them together with app developers. This platform will furthermore focus on improving hurdles such as billing relationships with carriers, distribution networks, as well as marketing budgets.

With the Movile Marketplace acting as the middleman, developers — small or big — now have the opportunity to have their applications preloaded on stock smartphones. The company notes that it has already previously preloaded applications on Samsung, LG, Sony, Huawei as well as Apple mobile devices.

Naturally, the submitted apps are curated to ensure they meet quality selection criteria. To bolster this new project, Movile has partnered with app distribution and analytics platform, appAttach to build and operate the Marketplace.

The company further notes that this portal hopes to eliminate the need for developers to spend time cultivating relationships with developers, finding or creating quality apps, and deploying them. “Movile’s relationships with OEMs and carriers in Latin America are a perfect complement to our powerful app distribution and analytics platform,” said appAttach CEO James DePoy.

This move is an important one as Latin America is said to be the fourth biggest smartphone market by 2017. Founded in 1998, Movile is described as one of Latin America’s leading publishing platforms and is responsible for various kinds of mobile content and commerce.

“It’s a natural fit for Movile to help bring together OEMs, carriers and developers,” said Movile head of US operations Eduardo Henrique. “Movile is invested in making the Latin American mobile economy take off, and with this step we help ease the burden on everyone involved, and build upon our first success.”
