Pilot POS partners with wiGroup to simplify mobile payments in SA

With a 70% mobile penetration in Africa, mobile money transfer service is eagerly waiting to take off. To further implement this concept, Pilot Software, has announced that it is streamlining its mobile integration process by allowing third-party applications — such as Google Wallet — to be compatible with its already popular POS (Point of Sale) software.

By partnering with wiGroup — a company that’s responsible for mobile transaction solutions — Pilot’s clients will be able to accept any mobile transaction, from mobile coupons and vouchers, through to mobile rewards and loyalty programmes, using a simple API (Application Programming Interface).

Glen Miller, Pilot’s marketing director, says that there are currently 13 third-party application projects in the pipeline which are compatible with its POS software. “There are many exciting and valuable third-party mobile transaction-based applications being developed in the hospitality space, everything from mobile payments to loyalty, rewards, coupon and voucher schemes,” he specifies.

Through this partnership, Pilot Software hopes to offer a simple and safe way of using POS, and a greater variety of third-party applications available are yet to come to the mobile industry. “Our job as a POS provider is to give our clients in the hospitality industry rock-solid POS software, that is easy for their staff to use, provides a fast transactional experience for their customers, and simplifies their back-office administration,” concludes Miller.

wiGroup provides mobile payment technology to over 40 000 retail lanes in South Africa with MTN and Vodacom being two of its biggest clients. “wiPlatform is proven, stable and already commercially active in many of South Africa’s major retailers and hospitality groups,” says Miller. “We’re confident that it’s the most efficient, cost-effective way to bring new third-party mobile transaction capability to the point of sale.”
