In a recent press release, the popular ecommerce outfit noted that it was committed to lending a hand to Nigeria’s fashion industry and its designers by showcasing their products online, and thus giving them the opportunity to increase their reach and access new markets.

Jumia Nigeria currently features more than 20 000 fashion items online, and by partnering with African Fashion Week, has found a way of extending its offering even further.

The Nigerian event, which will be taking place from 17 to 18 May, will host host some of the country’s upcoming fashion designers and their collections. Some of the designers showcased at the Fashion Week include House of Marie, Jedidah and Long Feet Boutique.

Jumia Nigeria will also host workshops educating people on entrepreneurship and how to reach their target audience with online retailers as a sales/marketing option for their brand.

The ecommerce startup also recently announced the opening of a store called By-Naija, which aims to empower local Nigerian fashion designers.

Founder of African Fashion Week Nigeria Ronke Ademiluyi said, “We believe that Jumia is the perfect platform that will act as a retail network and distribution channel for our designers, a platform that will assist in making their labels readily available to consumers.”

Co-CEO of Jumia Nigeria Jeremy Doutte stated, “We are always proud to promote Nigerian Fashion, and following the success of our By-Naija online store, we are looking forward to encouraging more creativity in Nigeria with the upcoming African Fashion Week partnership in Nigeria.”
