Backed by the Midas Group and initially offering automotive industry-related learning, Technica has broadened its scope to include the ever-expanding information technology sector.

E-learning is a massive industry in the US, currently worth around US$56.2-billion and continues to grow in Africa. Technica hopes to take advantage of this while nurturing the potential information technology talent the continent has to offer. In addition, living in a post-Snowden era, more and more people continue to embrace security and safe online practices, leaving the market wide open for potential and improvement. There are offerings for other learning areas, but not predominantly for information technology-based security.

Technica’s modules comprise of four key areas, including hosted workforce education, virtual labs, e-book content and online instructors. Subsequent courses offered include Linux- and Windows-specific security, networking safe practices, securing web applications, business continuity and disaster recovery, forensics, ethical hacking and risk management planning.

Michael Turnbull, Manager of Technica, sees massive potential in cyber security education, with the sector currently experiencing a balloon.

“The role of information and cyber security is currently 17th on the list of the top 100 jobs in America. With demand for this skill set to continue growing 20% year on year, it is a clear indication of global demand that may be applied to South Africa.”

Turnbull, in addition, mentions the goldmine of information technology talent yet to be untapped in South Africa, something that Technica hopes to aid.

“To be involved in continuing to facilitate South Africa’s reputation as a leader in technology and technology skill, whilst simultaneously delivering a positive contribution through addressing skills development, is an exciting and rewarding challenge”

Technica’s courses were launched this past week at the ITWeb Security Summit at the Sandton Convention Centre. More information on the courses is available here.
