South African-based online kitchen utility shop Yuppiechef is recognised as one of South Africa’s top commerce platforms and is well known for its cult loyal community support. Now, the company has announced that it’s expanding its vision, and focusing on sales to  other countries.

Since launching in 2006, Yuppiechef has been nominated as South Africa’s best ecommerce site four times. It has also boasted impressive revenue stats over the last few years. In essence, what it’s been doing in South Africa works.

As part of its global strategy, the online shop is now shipping to eight countries across the globe. Fran Peacock, the head of International Growth at Yuppiechef, says, “We looked at what we were doing in SA, and have tried to take that experience as far and wide as we can. The response has been really encouraging, and we are excited to take our products and services even further afield.” The company has recently started shipping to southern and eastern Africa, as well as the UAE.

Yuppiechef has grown far beyond an online shop for kitchen gear. The company notes that an important driver for the international expansion process is the Yuppiechef Online Cooking School. The online platform offers various cooking video-led cooking courses presented by industry celebrities. Courses range from Quick and Easy Dinners going for R175 each to French Classics of R255 each.

To echo the company’s new voice, it’s also updated its logo to feature a different typeface and the inclusion of the international.com domain. Yuppiechef Head of Design Jon Edwards says:

“We love our brand and it has served us well over the past eight years. As we travel into new areas, both on a company scale and geographically, we thought a slightly updated look would suit our slightly more grown up business. Philosophically, we see ourselves as a little more rounded than we are square, anyway.”
