A first in Africa, Startup Weekend Education (EDU) will be taking place from 5 – 7 September in Cape Town, South Africa to help encourage innovation in the education industry.

The Friday night will consist of 60-second pitches, team creations, product validation and voting. The Saturday and Sunday will see both professionals from the education and startup world encourage and mentor participating teams.
Products will then be demoed and judged by a panel consisting of Gareth Jane, Start-Up Strategy Advisor at Microsoft BizSpark & 4Afrika; Elizabeth Gould Founder of CodeX; Thashlin Govender from Dell Young Leaders at Michael & Susan Dell Foundation; and Rob Paddock who is Chief Academic Officer at GetSmarter.
