The chosen ventures will then have access to world-class entrepreneurship training, work with other change-makers and ultimately pitch at Demo Day in front of investors, philanthropists and other industry experts.

Although the accelerator process only lasts seven days, Spark will continue to support entrepreneurs for three years, which will award them free access to legal, business, graphic design and research support. Through the non-governmental organisation, chosen entrepreneurs will also have the opportunity to access injections of funding for their ventures.

Given its track record, CEO and founder of Spark International Aaron Tait is excited about next year’s intake:

“This project has been going for four years and of the 125 entrepreneurs that have come through the project — from the Pacific and in Africa — have managed to change the lives of 36 000 people who are living in poverty in those countries.”

Qualifying applicants should have the following criteria:

  • Have already launched a social enterprise that is already making a difference in the lives of tens of people living in poverty.
  • Be the founder of that social enterprise.
  • Want to scale their social enterprise to impact many more people living in poverty.
  • Be individuals who can get things done, and they have proven this in the past.
  • Be massively passionate about improving the lives of people living in poverty in Kenya or South Africa.

South Africa’s change-makers can apply here while Kenya’s can find more information here. Applications close on 5 November 2014 so get to it!
