While the rest of us scramble for weekend plans, people in Nairobi, Kenya are taken care of. The city’s weekend promises to be exciting as the Startup Weekend Nairobi kicks-off today at the innovation hub, Nairobi Garage. An invite has been extended to all entrepreneurs, budding business owners, operators and innovators.

The weekend will be made of a number of events in which the attendees can share ideas, discuss partnerships, and launch startups. There will also be mentors and coaches available to facilitate the events. Startup Weekend Nairobi will have local and international business mentors who have built their own successful businesses, as well as a facilitator from UP Global — the US-based company behind the Startup Weekend franchise.

Weaving the proceedings together will be guest speaker, Joe Macheru, Google Lead for East Africa.
The three top pitch winners at Startup Weekend Nairobi will be awarded various prizes including qualification for Google Developers Startup Launch Program, office space at Nairobi Garage, Hosting credits on Amazon Web Services, incubation at Nailab and several others.
“The first evening will see the first knockout round, by popular vote, and the rest of the attendees will be asked to form teams around the front-running ideas. By the end of the weekend, the top 3 business ideas will be chosen by the judging panel, according to strict evaluation criteria,” organisers said in a statement.
Tonight, the first day of the event, is free. For Saturday and Sunday, tickets are priced at Ksh 1,000 on Ticketsasa. Food and drinks will be provided to participants.
