The South African summer is slowly coming to an end. And in an effort to make the most of the little we have left, the organisers of Startup Picnic have decided to host a little get-together for startups.

In celebration of Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW), Startup Picnic is inviting entrepreneurs to its casual networking bash in Johannesburg, South Africa. This follows a successful event last year in November.

GEW is one of the world’s largest celebrations of the innovators and job creators who launch startups that bring ideas to life, drive economic growth and expand human welfare. Startup Picnic gives entrepreneurs the opportunity to unwind, make friends, play games and do what you do best when you’re having a picnic.
After being in the field of entrepreneurship for a few years, founder of Startup Picnic Tiisetso Maloma says that winding down is a much-needed concept for networking:
“We realised two things. One, tie and suit networking events are intimidating for most and the business cards exchanged do not necessarily stretch to solid connections,” he told us via email. “Two, entrepreneurship is hard, lonely and often anxiety rules. Therefore we created Startup Picnic as a nest for easy and casual networking over a braai, beer and fun games.”
As stipulated in the presser, “Ensure that you are dressed for comfort. Don’t forget to bring camp chairs and picnic baskets. Cooler boxes and alcohol are allowed, while braai stands and charcoal will be provided.”
The event last year featured speakers ACM Gold founder Irfan Pardesi, marketer and founder of Gushima Busta Madiba and Puseletso Modimogale who is co-founder of Therapeutic Touch Studios. Early tickets this time round go for R50, and the event will host speaker Marumo Lekwankwa who’s a businessman and investor.
Startup Picnic will happen on 25 April 2015 at the Diggers Rugby Club (Randburg Sports Complex), Johannesburg. Tickets are available through Computicket.
