“We are really proud to represent South Africa,” says Giraffe’s head of product and founder, Shafin Anwarsha, who will be pitching at the event.
“This will be a great platform to put South African startups on the map in the eyes of international investors- especially in the light of the economic situation at home,” adds Anwarsha.
Giraffe connects medium-skilled job seekers with opportunities through its automated mobile recruitment app for free. Since launching in February 2015, the startup has attracted over 75 000 job seekers and placed candidates with ‘hundreds’ of employers. It won the South African leg of the Seedstars World competition.
Over 3000 startups applied to the Seedstars World programme in 2015 from Eastern and Central Europe, Africa, the Middle East, Asia, and Latin America. Starting in April, four regional teams and local jurors selected the best startups from each region.

“Most people don’t really associate emerging markets to billion dollar opportunities and we’re here to show them that these markets are already transforming into centres of innovation where talented people and changemakers grow,” says CEO of Seedstars World, Alisée de Tonnac.
The summit will play host to some 1000 entrepreneurs, venture capitalists, corporate executives, business angles, government officials, journalists, and startup enthusiasts.
