Disruption technology is changing the world at a rate never seen before. And although the consequences are still unclear for many industries, it is clear that people’s jobs will be affected. There are also, however, a host of untapped opportunities for these technologies to lift millions out of poverty.
If the latter is to happen in Africa, then the continent needs to figure out how to use these technologies strategically. In a bid to add to the conversation around this, Things Technologies will host an Industry4.0 summit at the Sandton Convention Centre on 23 June.

The summit is inspired by this year’s World Economic Forum (WEF) gathering in Davos, where the theme was on 4th Industrial Revolution and how intelligent machines will transform our world. During the conference, many expressed the belief that Africa remains underdeveloped, the new industrial revolution is to be led by the continent as it leapfrogs stages of industrialisation.
The summit will focus on how this 4th Industrial revolution potential growth can be inclusive and improve the lives of millions in Africa. Will Artificial Intelligence bring opportunities or pose danger to African society? Future of banking (inclusive finance), future of disruptive Biotech (stem cells & genetics), future of money (Blockchain), future of work and opportunities for African entrepreneurs will be explored.
The summit is targeted at key business leaders across business, government and civil society. This will create a platform for managers, high-impact entrepreneurs, policy makers, and decision makers in business to network and collaborate to create an inclusive prosperous Africa’s future.
Speakers at the summit include, Kim Hulett, Founder & CEO of Next Biosciences; Pieter Theron, Partner/Director PwC; and Yolande Steyn, Head FNB Innovators.
