“We are pleased to welcome these three highly respected individuals to our board, who bring a wealth of industry knowledge, as well as commitment and passion for the industry,” said the CEO of SAVCA, Erika van der Merwe, in a press release to Ventureburn.

“All three directors already are active participants in SAVCA’s various activities, including fostering relationships with institutional investors, supporting our training programmes, advocating for the private equity and venture capital industry and promoting the Southern African region as an investment destination,” concluded van der Merwe.

SAVCA is the industry body and public policy advocate for private equity and venture capital in SA representing about R165-billion in assets

Yvonne Maitin, a partner at Bopa Moruo, has over 15 years experience in private equity, debt, derivatives and economics.  Starting out at Actis she later joined Liberty as director and head of distribution of on-balance sheet private equity and debt investments.  Maitin has also served as a private equity specialist fundraiser at STANLIB.

Paul Boynton is the CEO of Old Mutual Alternative Investments (OMAI). Prior to being the CEO of OMAI  he was the senior portfolio manager of the Old Mutual Life Funds including the head of investment views for three years.

Cathy Goddard, the chief investment officer at VUWA, is involved in various aspects of funding and closing of private equity transactions. Before her position as the chief investment officer at VUWA, Goddard worked at Investment Bank for seven years. Here, her focus was primarily on funding BEE transactions as well as shareholder re-organisations which included buy-outs and buy-ins of management.

“It is gratifying to have new directors joining the SAVCA board who bring a diverse range of industry experience, many years of private equity and venture capital service, and strategic insight, all of which will be harnessed to make a positive contribution to the private equity and venture capital industry in Southern Africa,” said chairperson of the SAVCA board and CEO of Paean Private Equity, Dave Stadler.
