SA’s ThisIsMe best regtech at 2018 Benzinga Global Fintech Awards

South African identity verification and due diligence platform ThisIsMe has won the Best RegTech Solution category at the fourth edition of the recently held Benzinga Global Fintech Awards.

Cape Town-based ThisIsMe was selected for its work in bringing more trust into transactions through its enhanced due diligence and authentication services.

The startup was placed first in the regtech category ahead of Canadian company iComply, and New York-based 8OF9, respectively.

The awards, which this year were held on 15 and 16 May in New York, aim to showcase the world’s latest fintech innovations and feature tech giants and major banks like Amazon, Facebook as well as JP Morgan.

“In an industry dominated by US and UK based solutions, ThisIsMe is truly showcasing what the South African and African fintech industry is capable of and we are honoured to accept the award,” ThisIsMe co-founder and head of product David Thomas said today (31 May) in a statement.

The startup’s co-founder and COO Juan Furmie added that receiving international recognition like this “gives us a great sense of accomplishment and confidence that we can compete on the international stage”.

Benzinga Global Fintech Awards finalists and winners are selected by an international panel of industry experts from companies that include CNBC and Google, among others.

Founded in 2014, ThisIsMe holds the record for the fastest FICA verification at three minutes. The startup uses an array of tech that includes artificial intelligence, bio-metrics, machine learning, and tamper detection.
