Nigerian cloud accounting platform Accounteer was yesterday selected as the winner of the inaugural $50 000 MEST Africa Challenge.

The pitch competition was held yesterday (21 June) on the final day of the MEST Africa Summit at the Waterfront in Cape Town.

Accounteer out-pitched three other startups to win the MEST Africa Challenge $50 000 equity investment prize

Accounteer pitched against Ghanaian agritech startup Cowtribe, Kenyan fintech Data Integrated, and South African livestock trading platfrom Swift Vee for the grand prize.

During the pitch, Accounteer business developer Adegboye Henry (pictured above) said the startup has 200 accountants on its platform and 9000 users across 72 countries.

Henry also said the platform, which works both online and offline, has 14% paying users and had a 9.6% monthly growth rate in users.

He added that the startup is seeking partnerships as well as investment and is looking to expand into Kenya before the end of the year.

The MEST Africa Challenge marks the first time MEST will invest in a startup that is not part of its portfolio of companies.
