As selection date nears 22 shortlisted for Startupbootcamp Cape Town accelerator

Startupbootcamp (SBC) Africa has announced the names of the top 22 startups selected to attend selections days for the organisation’s Cape Town accelerator.

This is the final step in the selection process before SBC Africa next month announces the final 10 startups that will take part in its second Startupbootcamp Cape Town accelerator. The acceleration programme kicks off in August.

In a statement yesterday (18 June), SBC Africa co-founder and CEO Philip Kiracofe said selecting the finalists had been “an intense process due to the exceptionally high calibre of startups applying to the programme from across the continent”.

“From 1004 applications we have managed to narrow down to 22 of the most creative teams tackling daunting African problems. One of the key differentiators for startups that participate in the SBC Accelerator is the opportunity to secure commercial contracts with our sponsors,” said Kiracofe.

SBC Africa will announce the second cohort of Startupbootcamp Cape Town accelerator on 12 July

“In order to make it onto our top 22, each startup has been chosen by at least two sponsors for potential proof of concept projects. The 2018 cohort is already shaping up to be a milestone moment for Africa,” he added.

Of the top 22 startups that have been selected to join the final selection days, eight come from Nigeria, five are South African, and three are from Uganda. Ivory Coast and Kenya each have two startups while Ghana and Ireland are both represented by a startup each.

The final 10 will be announced on 12 July at PwC’s Cape Town offices.

The 22 shortlisted are:
