DEMO Africa innovation tour: Here are the Cape Town, Douala winners
DEMO Africa has selected four startups from South Africa and Cameroon that will pitch at its launchpad in Morocco this October at DEMO Africa 2018. The four were selected following pitch events held earlier this month in Cape Town and Douala.
Recycling collections company Reginize was selected as the winner of the Cape Town pitch event.
The Cape-Town based greentech startup is focused on creating a recycling culture in South Africa. The startup’s founders Chad Robertson and Nkazimlo Miti (pictured above) aim to do this through a rewards-based app that uses gamification to motivate people to recycle.
Three startups from Cameroon — Zuoix, Dikorah and MooExams — emerged as winners at the Douala event. In all, 18 startups pitched at both the Cape Town and Douala events which were held on 5 July.
Zuoix is an information security company that helps clients stay safe online by predicting and taking action against cyber attacks. Dikorah has an events management application which helps users organise events based on their budget and location.
Edtech startup MooExams has developed an elearning platform which provides users with access to a directory of condensed courses, questions and answers on different topics. In addition, users can also use the platform to interact with teachers.
The four startups will now represent their respective regions at DEMO Africa 2018 in Morocco between 18 and 19 October
Reginize will — alongside two other South African startups Loyal1 and GetHosted, Zimbabwean company SMART Connect, as well as the eventual winner of the Botswana event — represent Southern Africa in Morocco.
Zuoix, Dikorah and MooExams will also represent Central Africa at DEMO Africa 2018.
The successful startups in each region will automatically qualify to be part of the pool of 30 startups set to pitch at the DEMO Africa launchpad taking on 18 and 19 October in Morocco.
Selected companies will be provided with resources worth over $150 000, including tools from Microsoft and Amazon Web Services to assist the founders in building their businesses.
