Energy startups can win €15k in second edition of EDF Pulse Africa Awards

French energy company EDF Energy is offering a €15 000 grand prize to the first place winner of the second edition of its EDF Pulse Africa Award. Entries close next week Wednesday (1 August).

The EDF Pulse Africa award is aimed at African energy startups with innovative solutions around off-grid electricity production, electricity services and usage, and water access.

Those startups that place come second and third will take home €10 000 and €5 000, respectively. In addition, the top three winners stand to benefit from access to further funding and possible development partnerships with EDF Group companies in Africa.

The EDF Pulse Africa Award is aimed at African energy startups. Entries close 1 August

Applicants who make it into the top 10 will be invited to a grand jury day and will attend the award ceremony set to be held in Paris, France on 22 November.

The 10 finalists will each participate in a three-day coaching session, in addition to receiving mentoring and advice on their respective projects in October and November.

Finalists will be selected based on how innovative their solutions are, social impact, relevance of the business model and how skilled their team is.

Judges will be looking for:

Off-grid electricity production: Any innovation that produces and or stores electricity off grid.

Electricity services and usages: An innovative product or service with low power consumption or a common use of electrical services

Water access: Innovative solutions that improve access to water through electricity.
