Three companies — EtuDesk, Maurice Communication Marketing, and WeFlyAgri — have come out tops as winners at DEMO Africa’s last leg of a West African innovation tour in Ivory Coast earlier this week.
The three will now face off with other startups from Nigeria and Ghana for a chance to represent West Africa at the DEMO Africa Launchpad this October.

The three companies out-pitched nine other startups — ZenApi, Kalejob, JANDA SARL, Damansah, Akil Technologies, Asher Services, Myrhann, Traductions, Bahrocel and YOB Technologies — at the event which was held on Sunday (8 July).

Maurice Communication Marketing caught the judge’s eye with their wearable device which connects to an online platform and enables users to move about with their personal and medical data.
Edtech startup EtuDesk has developed an elearning web app that assists academic institutions, companies and other organisations to easily and cheaply set up online learning programmes.
Agritech startup WeFlyAgri presented a solution that uses drones to enable farmers to remotely monitor their farms and identify inefficiencies in production.
The other startups that have qualified for the regional finals so far include: Moroccan healthtech MolDiag, CompleteFarmer, Devless, RedBird, Advanced IT Solutions from Kenya, Ugandan agritech TIFAT, as well as SA companies Gethhosted and Loyal1.
The successful startups in each region will automatically qualify to be part of the pool of 30 startups set to pitch at the DEMO Africa launchpad taking on 18 and 19 October in Morocco.
Selected companies will be provided with resources worth over $150 000, including tools from Microsoft and Amazon Web Services to assist the founders in building their businesses.
