Seedstars World, one of the world’s largest startup competitions, has selected the eight Kenyan startups to pitch at Seedstars Nairobi this Friday (21 September).
The eight will pitch in front of a panel of judges who include Africa’s Talking CEO Samuel Gikandi, Umtati Capital co-founder Munyutu Waigi, Omidyar Network investment principal Teresa Mbagaya and Seedstars East Africa associate Maryam Mgonja.

The winner of the pitch event, which is being held with the support of Nailab and Bora Digital, will win an all-inclusive trip to attend the Seedstars Summit in Switzerland in April next year where they stand to win up to $1-million in equity investments.
In addition, the winning startup will also represent the country at the Seedstars Regional Summit this year.

The eight selected startups range from a mobile chat service and an insurtech to an agritech startup making use of the Internet of Things (IoT).
Angaza Elimu: Angaza Elimu is a Nairobi-based edtech startup that has developed an elearning platform that reduces content delivery inefficiencies that learners and teachers face in and outside of the classroom.
Bitshamba: This agritech startup helps dairy farmers to get access to inputs, credit and insurance by using IoT-based tools to collect real-time data about their cattle.
Bluewave Insurance Agency : This insurtech startup has developed innovative mass market microinsurance products accessible via mobile devices.
Gravity.earth: Gravity leverages blockchain technology to allow anyone to create a self-sovereign, data based digital ID to access essential services.
Lily Health: Lily Health has developed a mobile chat service that helps women in emerging markets get personalised health advice.
PataGrao: The PataGrao app enables users to locate and book a sports facility ranging from pitches to courts, swimming pools and golf courses.
Paybobby: This platform helps small businesses to automate their back-office activities in order to reduce operational wastage and increase profitability.
Optimetriks: Nairobi-based Optimetriks has developed a salesforce automation platform that helps African fast moving consumer goods companies better manage their distribution networks.
