Global accelerator opens call to foster innovation in accounting, finance

The US based Association of International Certified Professional Accountants and CPA.com have opened a call for candidates for their joint startup accelerator programme which aims to foster innovation in accounting and finance.

Applications for the accelerator — which launched last year and focuses on early-stage startups in tech and financial information as well as professional competency innovation — will close on 30 November.

The six-month long accelerator programme — which is conducted both virtually and in person — is open to entrepreneurial companies worldwide. To be considered, applicants must be at seed or pre-Series-A, have a working product or service and be focusing on fintech or edtech solutions.

Up to five startups selected to join the Association and CPA.com Startup Accelerator will get up to $25k in funding

Between 12 and 14 December, selected applicants will be invited to pitch virtually to the association and CPA.com executives.

There after, in February next year, the cohort will convene in person for two days in a yet to be disclosed location. The session will be attended by an advisory group consisting of members from the association and CPA.com executives, industry leaders, tech companies and topical subject-matter experts.

The accelerator will provide the selected startups with access to expertise and insights from the senior leadership and advisors of the Association and CPA.com. In addition, up to five startups selected to join the programme will receive up to $25 000 in funding.

The selected startups will also get to attend AICPA Engage, one of the leading public accounting conferences in North America, taking place between 9 and 13 June in Las Vegas in the US.

In a statement yesterday (2 October), Association COO Lawson Carmichael said the first round of four companies that took part in last year’s programme had made “great progress” this past year. He added that the organisation is excited to see what new applicants will bring.
