Here are the 10 SA startups that will pitch at this year’s Seedstars Cape Town

Seedstars World, one of the largest startup competitions for emerging markets, has announced the 10 SA startups that will pitch at Seedstars Cape Town this Friday (19 October) — in the first of three pitches Seedstars will hold in the country.

The top three startups from the pitch event, which will take place at Seedspace Cape Town, will join the top three startups from the Johannesburg pitch which will be held next month, as well as other competitors at the main event — to be held also in Cape Town as well, next month.

At the main event startups will compete to be crowned the country winner and a chance to win an all-inclusive trip to attend the Seedstars Summit in Switzerland in April next year, where they stand to win up to $1-million in equity investment.

In addition, the winning startup will also represent South Africa at the Seedstars Africa Regional Summit which will take place in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania on 13 December.

The 10 startups pitching at Seedstars Cape Town include include a Saas platform for smallholder farmers, a an online jobs marketplace and a carpooling startup

A panel comprised of Hybr partner Vuyisa Qabaka, Seedstars SA general manager Katlego Tshetlo and Africa Trust Group principal Lelemba Phiri will select the pitch event’s winner.

The 10 startups pitching on Friday include a software-as-a-service (SaaS) platform for smallholder farmers, an online marketplace for entry-level jobs and a carpooling startup.

Here are the 10 startups:

DealZapp: This platform enables merchants who own a business or a shop to make deals and special offers available to customers situated close by.

GreenFingers Mobile: GreenFingers Mobile is a mobile first software-as-a-service (SaaS) tech platform that manages and finances large groups of smallholder farmers.

JobJack: JobJack is an online marketplace for entry-level jobs that aims to connect companies and job seekers.

Jumpin Rides: This carpooling platform enables drivers and passengers to share rides across the country.

Kuba: Kuba provides small business owners with the digital tools that can help them access new markets as well as streamline their operations

Slide Financial: This fintech offers white-label digital wallets and easy-to-use payment APIs used by businesses to create sharing-economy or investment apps.

HouseMe: HouseMe connects tenants to residential landlords, providing letting services for a fraction of agency fees.

Digs Connect: This student accommodation marketplace enables university students to find a room close to their campuses.

Tutor Roots: Tutor Roots’ app aims to simplify the process of finding and organising a tutor.

Vibescout: Vibescout enables its users to discover activities and events near them.

Startups can still apply to enter the Johannesburg satellite event to be held on 2 November and the Cape Town main event, to be held on 14 November. The deadline for applications for each is 22 October and 3 November, respectively.
