Tech advisory service AppsAfrica.com has announced the winners of the 2018 AppsAfrica Innovation Awards following its annual awards party held in Cape Town on Monday (12 November) evening.
The awards — which are now in their fourth year — aim to celebrate the best in African mobile and tech, from both corporates and startups across 14 categories.

In a statement yesterday (13 November), AppsAfrica.com said this year’s edition attracted over 300 entries from more than 39 countries across the continent.
All 14 winners will be invited to attend next year’s Africa Tech Summit in Kigali on 15 February next year. This year’s winners hail from Ethiopia, Kenya, Nigeria, Rwanda, South Africa, Tanzania and Uganda.

AppsAfrica.com founder Andrew Fassnidge pointed out that entries from smaller markets like Malawi, Sao Tome and Principe, Mauritania and Liberia illustrate the “rapid growth” of African tech outside of the usual hotspots.
The awards were supported by Uber, JET8¸ Syntonic, KaiOS, Africa Tech Summit Kigali and Mobile Monday South Africa. An independent panel of industry experts who included media, investors and tech ecosystem leaders assessed and selected the winners.

Best Blockchain Solution: Custos Media Technologies for Custos (South Africa)
Best African App: SafeBoda (Uganda)
Changing Africa Award: Vanu, Inc (Rwanda/Zambia)
Disruptive Innovation: Nala for Nala App (Tanzania)
Best Edtech Solution: Xander Educational Apps (South Africa)
Best Enterprise Solution: Kobo360 (Nigeria)
Best Fintech Solution: Clickatell for WhatsApp Chat Banking (South Africa)
Best Healthtech Solution: Baobab Circle for Afya Pap (Kenya)
Internet of Things (IoT): HydroIQ (Kenya)
Best mcommerce Solution:Travelstart for Flapp (South Africa)
Mobility and transport: Yego Innovision (Rwanda)
Best news and entertainment solution: Qene Technologies for Kukulu Game (Ethiopia)
Social Impact Award: WeThinkCode (South Africa)
