After holding pre-selection rounds in Cape Town and Johannesburg, emerging market startup competition Seedstars World will tomorrow (14 November) host the Seedstars South Africa Finals in Cape Town. The finals will take place at Seedspace Cape Town.

At the event, seven South African startups from Cape Town and Johannesburg will compete for an opportunity to represent the country at the Seedstars Africa summit in Tanzania next month and the global summit in Lausanne, Switzerland in April next year.

At the global summit, the winner stands a chance to take home up to $1-million in funding and other prizes.

The Seedstars South Africa Finals will feature the winners from pre-selection rounds held in Cape Town and Johannesburg

A jury panel comprised of Naspers Ventures strategy manager Minette Havemann, Nedbank head of disruption and innovation Stuart van de Veen, Seedstars World associate Claudia Makadristo and Hybr partner Vuyisa Qabaka will be responsible for selecting the winners.

The seven startups that will pitch tomorrow have developed solutions across the edtech, fintech and proptech verticals. They are:

Kuba: Kuba partners with small business owners to bring them digital tools that help them access new markets as well as streamline their operations. The startup was placed third at Seedstars Cape Town held last month.

Slide Financial: Slide Financial offers white-label digital wallets and easy-to-use payment APIs used by businesses to create a sharing-economy or investment app. The startup was placed second at Seedstars Cape Town.

HouseME: HouseMe connects tenants to residential landlords, providing letting services for a fraction of agency fees. The startup won Seedstars Cape Town.

Franc Group: Franc Group is a self-insurance platform that offers customers the opportunity to grow their wealth and manage their personal risk. The startup won Seedstars Johannesburg held earlier this month.

Maxicash: Maxicash is a financial support ecosystem built around remittance and payments for the African diaspora. The startup was placed third at Seedstars Johannesburg.

Uthini: Uthini is a language learning platform that connects professionals to other language speakers using a structured learning path and chatbots. The startup was placed second at Seedstars Johannesburg.

Sxuirrel: Sxuirrel is a peer-to-peer platform that connects individuals with extra storage and parking space to those in need of space. The startup is Seedstars wild card selection for tomorrow’s event and was chosen by Seedstars from a separate application process which closed on 3 November (made via this link: https://seedsta.rs/southafricafinals).
