Berlin based publishing company Startup Guide has launched a call for entrepreneurs and those that are part of the Joburg entrepreneurship ecosystem to nominate themselves to be featured in Startup Guide Johannesburg. Nominations close on 13 December.

The call comes after the company, which produces guidebooks on leading startup cities around the world, yesterday (29 November) held a launch event at the Tshimologong Digital Precinct in Johannesburg in partnership with SAP Next-Gen, to publicise the initiative.

Since it was founded in 2014 by Danish entrepreneur Sissel Hansen, Startup Guide has published guides for 18 different cities across Europe and the Middle East. In August the company launched a call for nominations for its planned Cape Town guide.

Startup Guide Johannesburg is set to be released on 8 August

Hansen said in a statement yesterday (29 November) that the handbook will be created in collaboration with Tshimologong.

The guide is set to be released in August next year and will be sold for €20 (R312 at the current rate), the same price as the Cape Town edition which is set to be released in April.

Commenting in the same statement, Tshimologong Precinct CEO Lesley Williams said the introduction of a dedicated resource for the startup ecosystem in Johannesburg will “unlock significant opportunities” for innovation hubs like Tshimologong.

Williams said the guidebook will enable Tshimologong to easily connect with entrepreneurs, experts and other roleplayers, ultimately providing a more supportive environment for growth.

Editor’s note (4 December 2018): SAP head of media relations Adam Hunter subsequently told Ventureburn that the guide will be sold for €20 not the €16 we had earlier reported.
