Nairobi-based mobile survey platform mSurvey is looking to expand operations and take on the Nigerian market after the firm’s recent announcement that it secured follow-on funding from French development finance institution Proparco.

The company’s consumer experience and feedback platform — which uses cloud computing connected directly to mobile network operators — enables businesses and organisations to connect with, and receive structured feedback directly from customers.

The firm was founded in 2012 by Kenfield Griffith (pictured above) and CTO Louis Majanja, and in April last year announced it had raised a $3.5-million Series A round led by venture capital firm TLcom Capital (see this story). The firm already has offices in Lagos, as well as in San Francisco.

In an email to Ventureburn today (19 February), mSurvey senior associate for corporate engagement and learning Leonida Kombo said the company was “not in a position” to disclose the exact amount Proparco had invested in the follow-on round.

mSurvey did not disclose how much Proparco invested in the follow-on round

In a statement announcing the follow-on round yesterday (18 February), mSurvey said that the investment will be used to expand the firm’s operations to “other African countries”.

“mSurvey is looking to expand its operations and set up infrastructure in Nigeria,” explained Kombo today.

Griffith said Proparco’s investment “speaks volumes” to businesses in Africa of the importance to invest in customer experience as a “pillar within your organisation” to be globally competitive brands.

Proparco investment officer Eric Zonstop yesterday said that its investment rationale relies on “the quality” of the team leading mSurvey and the solution that the firm has developed to tackle customer feedback needs in African countries.

“Proparco’s investment in mSurvey, in line with its mandate to support innovation and entrepreneurship across the African continent, will help mSurvey scale its customer feedback solution to new regions in Africa and therefore provide businesses with a much needed customer-centric solution tailored to the African market,” he added.
