SingularityU to hold inaugural Exponential Finance Summit in Cape Town next month

Global learning and innovation community SingularityU will on 29 and 30 May host the inaugural Exponential Finance Summit in Cape Town at the Cape Town International Convention Centre.

The industry-specific event — which will be hosted in collaboration with The Development Bank of Southern Africa, Deloitte, Discovery, and MTN — will showcase how exponential technologies are simultaneously shaping and disrupting the financial industry.

Topics to be addressed include how exponential technologies are influencing digital and cashless banking, mobile payment solutions, artificial intelligence and big data-driven financial solutions, robotics, insurance, asset management, the future of work, and automation within the African marketplace.

Over 20 international innovators and a number of local innovators in technology, finance, and investment will take to the stage.

These include cybersecurity expert Jaya Baloo, economics and exponential business models expert Amin Toufani, blockchain specialist Tanya Knowles, future of cities expert Geci Karuri-Sebina, ARK Invest founder Catherine Wood and data science specialist Manu Sharma.

Other headline speakers at the event will  include Ramez Naam, Kyle Nel, David Roberts, Kirsty Roth, Ashley Anthony, Mic Mann, Shayne Mann, Nathana Sharma and wealth advisor Paul Pagnatto.

Earlier this week, SingularityU announced that it had added more local speakers to the event.

These include MobileCoin co-founder and general counsel Shane Glynn, Discovery Life CEO Hylton Kallner, Sygnia CEO Magda Wierzycka, SqwidNet managing director Phathizwe Malinga, Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) principal researcher in the Mobile Intelligent Autonomous Systems group Benjamin Rosman.

Commenting in a statement on Tuesday (23 April), SingularityU South Africa co-CEO Mic Mann said the summit aims to facilitate meaningful networking connections on a global scale, encourage ideas that can change the financial world, stimulate the local economy and kick start a strong venture capital ecosystem.

“Impact is the currency of the future and these new speakers promise to add exactly that,” said Mann.

Singularity University CEO and associate founder Rob Nail said the summit will be a “transformative experience” for attendees.

“SingularityU South Africa convenes the world’s experts to introduce attendees to exponential technologies and equips them with the mindset and leadership needed to take the finance industry into the future,” he said.

Nail added that he expect the summit will incite and inspire action that will lead to breakthroughs in Africa’s economy.
