Early-stage deep tech startups stand to win a €100 000 grand prize in the sixth edition of the Hello Tomorrow Global Challenge.

The science and tech startup competition is designed specifically to address the needs of deep tech entrepreneurs across several different industries and technologies.

The challenge was created in 2013 by deep tech entrepreneurs Xavier Duportet and Arnaud De La Tour after the two realised that that the resources needed to propel emerging technologies were different from those of traditional web and mobile innovations.

Applications for the sixth edition of the Hello Tomorrow Global Challenge will close on 13 September

The challenge gives scientists and deep tech entrepreneurs around the globe a platform for their research and projects, providing equity-free prize money as well as other funding opportunities, global visibility and connections with key players in the deep tech innovation network.

In addition to the €100 000 grand prize, 13 other startups who come out tops in each of the challenge’s tracks or verticals will each receive a €10 000 prize.

This year’s challenge is organised across 14 tracks or verticals.

These are: aeronautics, advanced computing and artificial intelligence (AI), cybersecurity and communication, digital health and medical devices, drug discovery, energy, environment, food and agriculture, industrial biotech, industry 4.0, medical biotech, mobility, new space and smart cities.

Applications for the challenge close on 12 September, with the grand finals set to take place between 11 and 13 March in Paris during the Hello Tomorrow Global Summit.

The challenge is open to early-stage startups, including those that are about to be spun-out from academic labs. In addition to be considered for the challenge, startups must have:

  • A project based on a scientific discovery, advanced technology, complex engineering process or an innovative application of an existing technology
  • A team of at least two working on the project
  • A solution that could solve an industrial, societal or environmental unmet need or create a new market

Hello Tomorrow Challenge Global Summit

The challenge will see about 500 of the top deep tech startups get invited to the Hello Tomorrow Summit to interact with sector-specific and invite-only investors, top executives, accelerators and fellow founders.

The startups will also be invited for one-on-one meetings with more than 200 top tier venture capitalists and over 100 international corporates which will take place the day before the summit.

The 80 startups selected as finalists of the challenge will pitch in front of an audience of 400 industry experts and investors at the Hello Tomorrow Challenge Global Summit.

The names of the finalists will be announced in January.
