Four African entrepreneurs among Schwab Foundation awardees

The Schwab Foundation for Social Entrepreneurship has selected four African founders as recipients of its 2019 Social Entrepreneurship Awards.

The four are Cellulant co-founder and co-CEO Kennedy Njoroge, Nafham co-founder Mostafa Farahat and Easy Solar co-founder and CMO Nthabiseng Mosia (pictured above) who was selected together with the startup’s co-founder and CEO Alexandre Tourre.

The four are among 17 leaders from around the world who were selected for pioneering solutions for social and environmental challenges that range from refugee family reunification and human rights to water infrastructure and financial inclusion.

In partnership with the World Economic Forum, the Schwab Foundation for Social Entrepreneurship aims to accelerate outstanding models of social innovation.

Schwab Foundation for Social Entrepreneurship head François Bonnici said in a statement last week that the awardees represent a new ecosystem of leaders who are driving change and shifting organisations and systems towards a “more just, inclusive, sustainable future”.

“Not only do they demonstrate alternative models that better serve our society and planet, but they also show that mobilising and transforming society is possible by instilling innovation into the levers of policy, finance, and research for greater inclusion and sustainability,” he added.

Egyptian edtech Nafham is an online educational video platform for students that uses the power of the crowd to simplify and explain curriculum lessons through short videos.

This while Kenya’s Cellulant provides provides mobile payments and digital commerce, impacting millions of un-banked farmers in sub-Saharan Africa.

Sierra Leone pay-as-you-go solar distribution startup Easy Solar makes energy affordable for the underserved in West Africa.
