UPDATE (10 March 2020): The Mauritius Africa FinTech Hub announced in an email today that because of the increasing threat of the coronavirus, it has postponed the Africa Fintech Festival, which was to have take place from 5 to 7 May, to 5 to 7 October.
Mauritius Africa FinTech Hub (MAFH) announced that Mauritius will host the Africa Fintech Festival (AFF) 2020, which is scheduled for May next year, with 2000 delegates expected to attend.

The event is an initiative of industry association the Africa Fintech Network, which selected Mauritius to host next year’s event.
MAFH CEO Michal Szymanski (pictured above, middle accepting the AFF flag from Uganda’s Peter Kawumi) was in Kampala, Uganda for this year’s Africa Fintech Festival and the ceremonial handing over of the event’s flag.
This year’s event, held on 5 and 6 November by Uganda’s Financial Technology Service Providers’ Association (Fitspa), saw delegates from 25 African nations attend.
Szymanski said in a statement today that exposing the Mauritian FinTech ecosystem to Africa and the rest of the world, including the youth on the island, will be a catalyst for investment, interest and local innovation.
Africa Fintech Festival 2020 will be held in Mauritius in May next year
The Africa FinTech Festival aims to highlight ideas, trends, innovations and key debates on wide ranging issues from Regtech, consumer protection, disruption of savings, credit, insurance and pension value chains, to borderless operations, non-traditional partnerships, and game-changing business models.
MAFH said the event is align with the organisation’s vision to promote Mauritius as the fintech innovation hub for Africa. The theme of the event has not yet been confirmed.
The event is expected to be held over three to five days in May 2020, with the exact dates to be confirmed at a later stage.
