The Hague Institute for Innovation of Law (HiiL) and Qubit Solutions, together with IBM South Africa, are looking for lawyers, technologists and active citizens to come together and develop innovative solutions to justice problems at Global Legal Hackathon 2020.

Now in its third year, Global Legal Hackathon brings together like-minded innovators from around the world.

Over the course of three days, from 6 to 8 March, thousands of people in 50 cities will compete to build new legaltech applications. Winners will stand a chance to pitch their idea at a gala reception in London.

The Global Legal Hackathon 2020 will take place between 6 and 8 March

Other prizes for local winners include an internship at leading software developer Qubit Solutions, IBM Cloud Credits, an opportunity to exhibit at the Legal Show and an exclusive opportunity to pitch your prototype to angel investors at Evolvement Holdings.

Justice and legal problems span a wide gamut of issues, from neighbour and land disputes, to small business law, crime, corruption and gender-based violence. If you want to find out how to use tech to address these problems, this is the venue for you.

Previous winners of Global Legal Hackathon in Johannesburg have gone on to receive funding from HiiL, and take part in prestigious legaltech accelerators in South Africa, The Netherlands and the UK.

As Global Legal Hackathon coincides with International Women’s Day on 8 March, participants will also have the opportunity to also take part in the special #GLHInclusivityChallenge.

This is designed to inspire hackathon teams to develop new solutions to increase equity, diversity, and inclusion in the world’s legal industry.

This year’s event will take place at IBM’s offices at 90 Grayston Drive, Sandton.

Hackers are welcome to attend as a full team or an individual looking to share their skills or find others to help develop their idea. It’s an opportunity to network and find creative solutions to pressing justice needs.
