Durban is not just a nice place to grab a wave. Local tech initiative Silicon Durbs hopes to turn the city into a thriving tech centre.
The organisation, which was launched in 2018 as a non-profit company, will host a conference on 26 February for tech ecosystem players to network and share information.

Proceedings will run from 8am to 4pm and it’s free to attend.
Keynote speakers include Microsoft’s KwaZulu-Natal head Sandile Mahlaba, McKevin Ayaba founder of the Southern African Startup Awards and Ramsay Dasly, the co-founder of Durban tech startup Ikhokha.
About 150 people are expected to attend Silicon Durbs’ February tech conference
Other confirmed speakers include Amanda Mathe founder of Ndlovukazi Media and Qhakaza Girl IT and Siyabonga Tiwana co-founder of Sky-walk Innovations.
Silicon Durbs founder Lindani Mkhize told Ventureburn last week that he expects about 150 people — which includes speakers, presenters, and guests — to attend.
Mkhize said the organisation plans to host several two-day start-up bootcamps across Durban at higher learning institutions and in various communities. He said dates will be announced soon.
He said the organisation will also be seeking to bring in more partners and players on board especially government departments and corporate businesses
