The company was started by Chris King and Devin de Vries in 2008 in Cape Town (pictured above, on right and centres, respectively with Dave New who joined as a founder subsequently). The company relaunched in 2015 after opening an office in London.

US tech publication TechCrunch reported in an article last Friday (28 February) that the round was led by Mexico City-based corporate venture capital fund LiiL Ventures.

Also participating in the round were Google, Nedbank and Toyota Tsusho Corporation (TTC) and returning investors Global Innovation Fund and  Goodwell Investments.

WhereIsMyTransport plans to use the $7.5-m it has raised to help with further international expansion

The publication said the platform has so far mapped 34 cities in Africa and are mapping cities in India, Southeast Asia and Latin America.

It said the tech company now has more than 750 000km of routes in 39 cities. The new investment is aimed at helping fund further international expansion.

The latest round follows another Series-A round closed in January last year, when the tech company raised  $1.85-million in a deal also led by LiiL Ventures. Goodwell Investments also participated in the round.
