Top startup web events in South Africa, Africa you should know about this week [08/06/2020] [Updated]

Tomorrow (9 June) Heavy Chef will host former Nigerian president Olusegun Obansanjo who will discuss how Africa can respond to the pandemic.

This, while on Wednesday (10 June), LifeCheq will host former Springbok rugby player Brian Habana. He will talk more on the businesses he’s involved in, including fintech startup Paymenow, where he serves as a co-founder.

Ventureburn has updated its existing weekly series that highlights all the top startup events in Africa, by shifting to focus only on web events broadcast from Africa. This includes webinars as well.

Serial entrepreneur and author Nic Haralambous is hosting a regular stream for startup founders and business owners called StartSomething.

This week Haralambous talks to Catherine Lückhoff, CEO of 20fifty.

All about cryptocurrency

Throughout the month of June, Bitcoin peer-to-peer marketplace, Paxful, will be hosting a series of free, virtual sessions to teach viewers more about the cryptocurrency sector.

The first sessions will deal with the use of bitcoin as a philanthropic tool.

An evening with Bryan Habana

LifeCheq will host former Springbok rugby player Bryan Habana (pictured above). While continuing to be an expert rugby analyst for the UK’s Channel 4, Habana has launched a digital sports marketing agency called RetroActive.

Most notably, he is currently the co-founder of a fintech startup called Paymenow, which is a financial wellness and inclusion platform that promotes responsible financial behaviour and gives employees access to wages they have already earned.

Africa4Future Showcase 2020

The Africa4Future Showcase 2020, powered by Airbus Bizlab, GIZ and UP42, and implemented by Nigeria’s CcHUB, will unveil the 10 companies selected for the third cohort the Africa4Future accelerator.

These companies, from seven African countries are using remote sensing technology (satellite imagery) to tackle the food insecurity and infrastructure deficit problems across the continent.

Proficiency, passion and profit

HYBR Group together with digital accounting firm SMTax, are collaborating on a series of a bi-monthly webinars to support SME growth.
