UCT GSB Solution Space selects 10 startups for Venture Exploitation Programme

The University of Cape Town Graduate School of Business’s (UCT GSB) Solution Space has selected 10 startups to join its 12-week Venture Exploitation Programme, which kicked off on Monday (1 June).

The programme, which was launched last year by the UCT GSB Solution Space is backed by the MTN Group.

It consists of a three-part, venture acceleration and capacity building programme for high-impact ventures. In addition, the Solution Space also aims to assist tech ventures and stimulate an ecosystem that leverages MTN’s various platforms.

Three of the 10 companies that MTN announced in a statement on Monday, were last month named as the top three ideas in a hackathon was run by SA based messaging app Ayoba, together with the Solution Space and Geekulcha. They were Guardian Health, Little Fish and Wenzan (see this story).

The details of the 10 companies selected for the Venture Exploitation Programme are:

Activity Hub, an online marketplace for tours and activities which offers real-time availability, secure payment and instant confirmation for experiences

CiTTA, a sustainable development data and expert resourcing and networking platform with a database.

Guardian Health, a booking system for local clinics and community health workers to provide better resource planning.

Little Fish, an e-commerce channel to enable small businesses with limited capital to experience and enjoy the benefits of the growing digital economy.

FynRoot Productions, sells a potted arrangement of fynbos plants and empowers individuals with the knowledge to grow and sustain fynbos plants

IAfrica, an African language platform for content and digital skills development.

Ikhaya Space, a credit provider to high-net-worth individuals and businesses.

Futures Academy, an independent online high school that offers a flexible learning solution for grades 10 to 12.

Go Themba, an eco-friendly mobile car wash app.

Wenzan, a decentralised peer-to-peer video chat app that allows users to video call anyone on any phone with a browser.
