Top startup web events in South Africa this week [07/09/2020]

This week’s events will cover the foundational basics of creating a business with StartupGrind hosting a Business Model Development Workshop on Saturday.

In addition, serial techpreneur, Jean-Pierre will offer insight into his journey in raising venture capital as a black tech startup founder and the challenges he faced in doing so along with advice for other black entrepreneurs.

Running a business 

StartupGrind South Africa will be hosting a webinar focusing on the impacts of running a business and having to balance it along with one’s general other responsibilities, family, etc. The webinar will cover the challenges surrounding and how best to make it work for one’s lifestyle. 

Insights will be provided by guest speakers including Joseph Ndaba chapter director of Mahikeng Innovation Hub and Tebogo Mosito, a woman in the mining industry. The webinar will function as a fireside chat session with attendees able to submit questions.

Business Model Development Workshop 

The ultimate Business Model Development Workshop will take place virtually and will be hosted by Startup Grind South Africa. The workshop will provide a foundation for entrepreneurs on how to base their businesses using the provided Business Model Canvas. Facilitated by Monde Zuma, founder, and CEO of MamelodiBiz and MamelodiTV, the workshop will help entrepreneurs draft a preliminary planning document that describes what one plans to do and how you plan to do it – it covers the who, what, why, and how of the business.

The Business Model Canvas is a strategic management and lean startup template for developing new or documenting existing business models.

It is a visual chart with elements describing a firm’s or product’s value proposition, infrastructure, customers, and finances. This is a must-attend workshop for entrepreneurs who are just starting their journey and would like guidance and insight into revenue streams, key resources, customer engagement, key partnerships, and more.

Safeguarding your business brand during uncertainty

Allan Gray is hosting a ‘Survive and thrive’ webinar series that will allow various thought leaders and business experts to present their strategies which can assist business owners to boost their company’s longevity and reach its full potential.

Creating an inclusive fundraising experience 

Serial entrepreneur, Jean-Pierre Adechi is hosting a webinar where he will share his journey to raising capital for his various startups as a black entrepreneur in a homogenous venture funding ecosystem.

Adechi founded his first company and is the founder of Wheeli, a leading carpooling network for college students. Wheeli is a Techstars and venture capital-backed tech startup, disrupting long-distance travel by building the transportation network for the 50-mile plus trips market.

The latest trends in the tech industry 

Hosted by How To Web, this episode of the webinar series will feature guest speakers and tech entrepreneur Emi Gal and Ondrej Bartos. Gal founded his first startup during university and later went on to develop a new way to screen for cancer using MRI and AI technology. Supported by Ondrej Bartos, his investor in his first major exit – Brainient (acquired by Teads). The webinar will feature a discussion on the newest and latest tech trends between Gal and Bartos along with Gal’s tech entrepreneur journey.
