Top startup web events in SA this week [23/11/2020]

In this week’s line up of exciting events, entrepreneurs will have the opportunity to learn about how to boost productivity in the workplace. In addition, the enthralling AfricArena Summit will take place alongside the annual African Entrepreneur Conference. 

Ventureburn has updated its existing weekly series that highlights all the top startup events in Africa, by shifting to focus only on web events broadcast from Africa. This includes webinars as well.

AfricArena Air

Silicon CapeAirmeet, and AfricArena will be hosting The AfricArena Summit that will be running parallel to AfricArena Air. This will be a hybrid tech event that will operate both in-person and virtually. 

The AfricArena Summit, an annual conference, will showcase the best startups and innovators in Africa that were selected during the year after participating in virtual pitching events. The audience will consist of local and international investors seeking potential collaborations. AfricArena Summit aims to drive the growth of tech startups by providing innovators with an opportunity to present their business model and possibly secure investment funding. 

AfricArena Air will be the virtual component of the AfricArena Summit. The AfricArena Air will host a number of speakers that are highly respected in their field discussing the best African innovations of the year.

Boost Productivity

An information session on how to use journey maps will be hosted by Business Process Mechanics to boost productivity in the workplace and build stronger teams to attract customers and potential investors. 

Practical activities will be integrated into the information session. The activities will be encouraged to be implemented in the workplace to provide structure. 

Topics that will be discussed are 

  • Getting organized
  • The art of delegation
  • Gap analysis, which is to review business practices to develop a structure that will drive business growth.
  • How to recover from a setback and ways to avoid it.
  • Tools that will assist with future growth and the management of relationships with investors
  • Identifying deadweight.

African Entrepreneurs Conference

The theme for the seventh edition of the African Entrepreneur Conference is ‘Unlocking the African Hidden Potential’. It is a two-day virtual event that will compensate for 5 000 local and international entrepreneurs that are to participate in the event. 

This conference will connect different stakeholders which will include, mentors, investors, incubators, accelerators, and entrepreneurs. African startups will be given an opportunity to showcase their product or service via a virtual platform. Through wealth and job creation, the conference aims to transform the economic narrative in Africa.

During this event, opportunities for business marketing and growth will be discussed by encouraging connections between investors and entrepreneurs. The conference aims to attract $15 billion investment for African entrepreneurs. 

The breakaway activities that will also be available are a workshop, seminar, mentoring, pitch lab, boot camp, master classes, motivational talks, training on practical tools and technology, and general information sessions. 

There will be a wide variety of guest speakers. Some include Oliver Fortune Chikodzore, Chief Executive Officer of The African Innovation and Entrepreneurship Centre, Specialising in Thought-Leadership, Tersia Stellenberg, CEO of Dikgato Tsame (Botswana) (Proprietary) Limited, International Executive and Leadership Coach, and Dr. Rufaro Mucheka, head of Business Strategy & Rest of Africa of Nedbank Wealth.

Pivot small businesses to online

Mail & Guardian will be hosting a live webinar to discuss how SMEs accelerated during the Covid-19 pandemic through eCommerce innovations. The aim of the webinar is to take a look into the behavioral changes of consumers, how they reacted to the pandemic, and what it means for SMEs.

The webinar will cover topics such as eCommerce trends in SA as well as globally, challenges entrepreneurs faced during the pandemic, and how they recovered. Along with digital tools and innovations for SMEs to increase sales, how to deliver value to the online community through digital experiences, digital integration, fraud management tools, and how to set up a customisable store that allows debit and credit card payments.
