When we covered Nubee last year, it was launched as Africa’s first ‘‘’Uber’ for driving lessons”.
Jason Bruce-Brand founded the startup with fellow Stellenbosch University law alumnus Jarryd Strydom. In the beginning, Nubee aimed to revolutionise the methods people used to book driving lessons around the world.

Zoom lessons, Queue Hero and Nubee Cars
“Since that article was published, we’ve expanded our business model to include the whole life cycle of getting people onto the roads. Our mission is to make driving more accessible and guide our customers right the way through the process, from getting their learner’s license right the way through to purchasing and insuring their first car. We’re thus moving away from simply ‘Uber for driving lessons’ to ‘the app for the modern driver’,” explained COO Bruce-Brand, who shared news around the company’s growth this year with Ventureburn.
Nubee – the app for the modern driver
In addition to the Nubee driving app, the platform now offers the first Zoom learner’s lessons in SA, with qualified tutors to help students pass their test on the first attempt. “We also have another service to handle our customer’s administration at the traffic department, which we call Queue Hero,” shared Bruce-Brand.
“The new service that we’re super excited about just launched this week – our second-hand vehicle marketplace, Nubee Cars. We accept applications to our platform which fit the criteria of a great first car for our ‘Nubees’. You can see all our developments around this on the site,” commented CEO, Strydom.
He went on to express his gratitude. “These developments wouldn’t have been possible without the hard work of our whole team,” said Strydom.
The startup shows no signs of slowing, with new projects already in the pipeline. “We also plan on integrating car insurance and a mobile car wash booking function in the coming year,” said Bruce-Brand in closing.
