SA eateries location app Fomo has announced they will be offering local hospitality business owners free listing services during Level 4 lockdown.
The app was launched last year by founders Ryan Marx and Jacqueline du Plessis. Put simply, Fomo uses geolocation technology to show users the closest eatery specials, events and activities in their area.

Fomo pays it forward
Since its launch, the app has reached over 60 000 downloads and has supported many small businesses in the hospitality vertical.
“Even two weeks could mean death to many restaurants.”
CMO du Plessis commented on the decision, saying, “Even though we are self-funded and Fomo is technically still a start-up, we strongly believe in paying it forward, and as long as we have the power to help a suffering industry we will. So, for now, we will be pivoting Fomo’s product by focusing on showing our entire user base where they can get their next take out from.”
The latest reinstatement of Level 4 lockdown and alcohol ban means that hundreds of jobs in SA’s hospitality industry are at risk. Marx expanded on this. “Even two weeks could mean death to many restaurants. I believe the restaurant industry needs a voice and someone to speak up for them. We are working tirelessly to be this voice for all the restaurants that feel hopeless at this point. We have our entire team working currently throughout the night to upload restaurants and their menus,” he said.
