By leveraging Microsoft Azure, Flutterwave intends to support the rapid growth of transactions processed on its platform for global clients, including prominent brands like Uber, Netflix, and Microsoft. The partnership solidifies Azure’s role in providing a seamless, reliable, and secure payment experience for Flutterwave’s customers.

Key products of Flutterwave, such as Flutterwave for Business and Send by Flutterwave, will be transitioned onto the robust Azure cloud platform. Additionally, Flutterwave will utilise Azure OpenAI Service capabilities to scale its product offerings to millions of merchants globally.

Olugbenga Agboola, founder and CEO of Flutterwave, expressed the company’s appreciation for Microsoft’s invaluable partnership, stating, “Microsoft has been an invaluable partner, providing a platform that allows us to deliver consistently high-quality services to our clients.

“As we manage high-volume payment processing, particularly during peak periods, the robustness, reliability, and scalability of Microsoft Azure become critical. As such, deepening our collaboration with Microsoft is the most logical step forward for us.”

Agboola emphasised that this partnership will drive the transformation of global commerce, leveraging the diverse and expanding range of services offered by Microsoft.

Gurbhej Dhillon, Flutterwave CTO, highlighted the importance of Microsoft Azure in establishing a strong foundation for Flutterwave. “Our development on Microsoft Azure has set a strong foundation,” said Dhillon.

“Their platform provides us with significant developer leverage, which we harness in service of our clients. Looking to the future, we’re excited about the possibilities of scaling with Azure OpenAI Service, which will enable us to serve even more merchants worldwide.”

Mike Gaal, general manager at Microsoft Corporation, expressed his enthusiasm for the expanded collaboration. “We have proudly supported Flutterwave’s core operations with Microsoft Azure for many years. We are excited to further fuel their growth and innovation through this expanded collaboration,” said Gaal.

“Our mission is to empower every person and every organisation on the planet to achieve more. Working with Flutterwave will take us a step closer to achieving our mission in Africa.”

The Flutterwave-Microsoft partnership represents a significant step towards enhancing the payments infrastructure in Africa. By leveraging Microsoft Azure’s robustness and scalability, Flutterwave aims to provide millions of merchants worldwide with secure and seamless payment solutions, further boosting digital transformation efforts across the continent and beyond.
