Skrmiish, the world’s first app that allows gamers to monetise their matches, has announced the appointment of Dr João Pela as its new head of data. He brings a wealth of experience in data science and machine learning, having previously worked as a researcher and experimental physicist at CERN, the renowned particle physics lab in Switzerland.

During his tenure at CERN, spanning nine years, Pela played a pivotal role in the discovery of the Higgs Boson, a ground-breaking achievement that earned the Physics Nobel Prize in 2013. In 2016, he transitioned to the tech start-up world, joining Rotageek as a data scientist.

He quickly rose to a leadership position and spearheaded the development of their flagship auto-scheduling products. Subsequently, Pela assumed the role of head of data at Seatfrog, where he built and managed their engineering and analytics teams. Both Rotageek and Seatfrog have successfully raised over $40 million in funding and are recognised as high-growth tech businesses.

“João comes from an incredible background of data, science, and smashing particles together deep underground in CERN,” said Chris Heaton, co-founder and managing director of Skrmiish. “We are all very excited to have someone with his expertise in the business. He is another weapon in our armoury helping Skrmiish achieve incredible success.”

Skrmiish, headquartered in the Isle of Man with a strong tech team based in Cape Town, stands as the pioneer in play-to-earn technology for the AAA gaming market. Its unique app empowers gamers to monetise their gameplay by offering a competitive blockchain-based gaming wallet. To date, Skrmiish has paid out over half a million GBP in earnings and boasts more than 75,000 active players who earn money while gaming each month.

Pela’s appointment marks a significant milestone for Skrmiish as it continues to expand its capabilities in the gaming industry. He will lead the company’s data initiatives, drive innovation, and ensure Skrmiish maintains its competitive edge. Pela will be based in the London office, working alongside CEO Luke Grob and the rest of the team.

“I will be Skrmiish’s data voice as we grow into a major player in how gamers can generate income from doing what they love,” said Pela. “I’m excited about joining a fast-growing business with a lot of potential, where I feel I can make a real impact!”

Skrmiish’s unique combination of a traditional sportsbook approach and AAA gaming provides gamers with the opportunity to back themselves for real cash without requiring a direct competitor.

Through Skrmiish, players receive their skill-based MoneyMatch Rating (MMR) based on their performance data after syncing their game accounts. They can then choose from a wide range of personalised and on-demand challenges to complete in their next match. The Skrmiish blockchain-based wallet offers gamers full control over their funds while benefiting from the speed and cost efficiency of the Lightning Network.

Skrmiish continues to lead the player-versus-house gaming industry while providing gamers with a practical financial solution to manage their funds effectively. For more information, go to www.skrmiish.com.
