AfricArena, Africa’s premier tech accelerator, and Électricité de France (EDF), one of the world’s leading utility companies, have announced a strategic partnership that will reshape the landscape of tech innovation in the continent’s energy sector.

The announcement was made at the threshold of the AfricArena Nairobi Summit, which is set to commence on Wednesday, 6 September 2023, and promises to be a convergence point for tech, investment, venture capital, and legal experts. This exciting partnership is further set to shine a spotlight on Africa’s tech ecosystem, and, in particular, its potential to tackle global energy challenges.

EDF, through its EDF Pulse Africa programme, will co-host the AfricArise Energy Open Innovation Programme at the Nairobi Summit.

This collaboration signifies the alignment of values, ideas, and vision between AfricArena and EDF, both committed to nurturing tech innovation in Africa’s energy sector.

Christophe Viarnaurd, CEO of AfricArena, expressed his enthusiasm about the partnership, stating, “This new corporate partnership with one of the top three utility companies in the world, active in many African countries, is key to unlocking Africa’s innovative climate tech solutions for global challenges within the continent’s fast-growing tech ecosystem. We look forward to working closely with EDF to enable market access opportunities for African tech entrepreneurs.”

The partnership comes at a pivotal moment when Africa is increasingly becoming a hub for innovation and entrepreneurship, particularly in the energy sector. EDF’s involvement is expected to catalyse the development of innovative solutions, drive sustainability, and accelerate access to clean energy across the continent.

The AfricArena Nairobi Summit is set to feature an array of influential speakers from various sectors, including tech, investment, venture capital, and more. Among the notable speakers are Benjamin Rombaut, co-founder at Sand to Green; Nadia Seemuth, managing partner at Jambaar Capital; and Matsi Modise, CEO and founder at Furaha Afrika Holdings, among others. Their insights will provide valuable perspectives on the dynamic events taking place in East Africa’s investment landscape.
