Here’s who won at the 2019 AppsAfrica Innovation Awards
The 2019 edition of the AppsAfrica Innovation Awards were held last night in Cape Town with 14 winners from across the continent scooping accolades.
The awards aim to showcase the best mobile and tech services launched across the continent, from both corporates and startups.
Technology news portal and advisory service AppsAfrica said this year’s edition attracted 400 entries from 52 countries across the continent.
Over 400 entries were submitted for this year’s AppsAfrica Innovation Awards
An independent panel of industry experts including media, investors and leaders from the tech community selected the winners. This year edition was sponsored by Africa Tech Summit Kigali, Tencent, Huawei and Mobile Money South Africa.
The winners were:
- Best Edtech Solution: Lightsail Education for Lightsale Educational E-Reader (South Africa)
- Social Impact Award: Idea Digital Education (South Africa)
- Best African App: Appy Saúde (Angola)
- Disruptive Innovative Award: Brck for Moja (Kenya)
- Best Fintech Solution: Carbon (OneFi) for Carbon (Nigeria)
- Best Healthtech Solution: 54gene (Nigeria)
- Best Enterprise Solution: PM Connect
- Best Agritech Solution : Aerobotics for Aeroview in InField (South Africa)
- Best News and Entertainment Solution: Carry1st (South Africa)
- Best Blockchain Solution: RippleNami (Kenya)
- Best Internet of Things (IoT) Solution: Liquid Telecom (Kenya)
- Best Mobility Solution: Lori Systems (Kenya)
- Best mCommerce Solution: One Kiosk Africa (Nigeria)
- Changing Africa Award: Flutterwave (Nigeria)
The winners have been invited to attend Africa Tech Summit Kigali which will be held in Rwanda in February. The event will feature three tracks, namely the Money and Blockchain Summit, the Future Summit and the Africa Startup Summit.
AppsAfrica founder Andrew Fassnidge said in a statement last night that the awards provide an “unbiased platform” for the smaller guys to compete on a level playing field against bigger corporates, who typically dominate awards elsewhere which why they were first set up in 2015.
“Congratulations to all the winners we look forward to having them all join us at Africa Tech Summit in Rwanda next year, and a special word of thanks all entrants, our expert judging panel, sponsors and supporting partners across Africa who help each year,” he added.
