Egyptian food discovery and ordering platform Elmenus raises $8m Series-B round
Egyptian food discovery and ordering platform Elmenus has raised $8-million in a Series-B round.
Elmenus provides users with digitised restaurant menus from food carts to hotel restaurants.
Tech publication Menabytes reported in an article yesterday that the investment was led by Dubai-based Global Ventures and Egyptian venture capital (VC) company Algebra Ventures.
Tarek Sakr and Hamad Al Homizi, the co-founders of Kuwait’s 4Sale, also participated.
In a statement today, Global Ventures said the VC saw “great potential” in what Elmenus could develop into as a business and were keen to be part of the continuing growth journey that we witnessed.
Egyptian tech firm Elmenus, which has raised $8m, was founded in 2011 by Amir Allam
“Having launched the ability for its users to order food online in 2018, Elmenus is well-positioned to disrupt and dominate the online food delivery space, a largely untapped market in Egypt, where it is estimated that only four percent of total food delivery orders are currently processed online,” said Global Ventures.
It said to date, the tech firm has partnered with over 8000 restaurants across 24 cities and serves over 1.2 million monthly active users.
Menabytes said Elmenus has now raised almost $10-million, since it was founded in 2011 by Amir Allam (pictured above).
It said the latest raise follows a $1.5-million Series-A round led by Algebra Ventures in 2017. Elmenus now has over 200 employees.
In June last year tech publication Wamda reported in an article that Elmenus has raised an undisclosed amount in investment from the vice president of international marketing for Delivery Hero, Julian Dames. It’s not clear whether this money formed part of the firm’s current Series-B round or not.
