Livestock management app Modisar named Seedstars World Botswana winner

Livestock management app Modisar was crowned the Seedstars World regional winner in Gaborone, Botswana on 27 November. This event marked the end of Seedstars World’s African tour.

The app was created to help farmers better manage their farms. “It feels great to win, we put a lot of effort into this event and we are happy that we can keep on working on making to making our customers happy,” says Alec Agisanyang, lead software engineer for Modisar.

The startup app will be joining the rest of this year’s Seedstar World’s regional winners for the finals in 2016. The final event will take place on 3 March in Geneva, Switzerland, where the entrepreneurs will be competing for a chance at a US$500 000 equity investment into their business. Apart from the main prize, the additional prizes include a US$500 000 equity investment for the best travel app from lastminute.com and a US$50 000 grants for the best space-related startup.

The first runner-up for the Gaborone event was NGO Grow, a social network for NGOs to help them collaborate on projects. The third place position was awarded to food waste recycling company, Earth Love.

The Botswana event was hosted by the Microsoft Innovation Centre in Gaborone. Additional partners included the Botswana Innovation Hub and The First Steps Venture Center among others.

Seedstars World was founded by Alisée de Tonnac and Pierre-Alain Masson. Last year the competition visited 36 countries, but in 2015 the number was increased to 53. It is based in Geneva and is supported by Seedstars.
