Campus-based incubator LaunchLab, in partnership with ATTACQ, has announced the six winners of the Attacq Retail Innovation Entrepreneurs Challenge 2016.
The winners were awarded a share of R100 000 in seed funding as well as incubation and support from the Nedbank Stellenbosch University LaunchLab.

“We were impressed with the high quality of pitches at the final event. Our intention was to access new ideas and create the next breakthrough innovation in retail by addressing the e-commerce needs of our clients and customers,” said the head of asset management at ATTACQ, Michael Clampett, in a press release to Ventureburn.
“The submission had to enhance the customer’s experience of comfort and convenience, as well as solve payment issues within the ATTACQ portfolio and overcome general operational issues that may arise,” Clampett continued.
The challenge was part of LaunchLab’s platform which began with two briefing workshops held on 11 August 2016. These briefings were held at the Mall of Africa in Johannesburg as well as the Nedbank Stellenbosch University LaunchLab on 19 August 2016.
ATTACQ has announced the winners of their Retail Innovation Entrepreneurs Challenge 2016
The challenge was open to any entrepreneur who had a passion for the retail, technology and property industries. These aspiring entrepreneurs had the opportunity to pitch their business at participating campuses or online.
The vast amount of entries was narrowed down to just ten finalists who pitched their ideas on 19 October at the Nedbank Stellenbosch University LaunchLab. They were judged by a panel of six senior executives from ATTACQ, Coronation and LaunchLab.
“ATTACQ will carefully monitor the development of these six winning business ideas during the next six months to gauge their potential and value-add to our existing clientele,” said Clampett.
“LaunchLab’s Breakthrough Innovation Platform is ideal for established businesses that are looking to tap into new markets and future revenue streams by accessing new external breakthrough ideas,” said LaunchLab’s CEO, Philip Marais.
The following winners will go on to the Knowledge Acceleration and LaunchLab Lift-Off Programmes:

- Jacobus Kriel: Grocer-E R15000 – Merging Ecommerce with Retail
- Bradley Hornby: WizzPass R25000 – A Solution for paying for parking at controlled access parking
- JD Naude and Charl Cillie: SwiftPay R15000- A RFID inventory tracking and Queue eliminator
- Courtney Bentley: Visibiliti Insight R15000 – A platform to track revenue trends and make recommendations
- Werner Mostert: Spatial Edge R25000 – Assisting shopping centre owners understand and engage with customers using big data and analytics
