A cab company, freelance listing app and African languages publishing project — these are three of the initial investments that Uprise.Africa, which hopes to become South Africa’s first equity crowdfunding platform, plans to make available to investors from 25 October.
Uprise.Africa spokesperson Inge Prins confirmed to Ventureburn today that the platform intends to initially list six startups or projects.

So far three investments already appear on the platform. These are:
- Storied, a Jacana Publishing project to help publish more African fiction and poetry in which the company is seeking R3-million in exchange for a total equity of 49% in the project.
- Jobvine Freelance, a freelancing app by job listing site Jobvine, which is looking for R3-million in exchange for a total of four percent equity.
- The Green Cab, in which The Green Cab company is looking for R3.5-million in exchange for total equity of 35% to fund a cab division operating hybrid and electric vehicles.
Uprise.Africa intends to initially list six startups or projects
The platform carried out a soft launch at a panel discussion held by Moneyweb in July.

The Uprise.Africa team were due to be at the Department of Trade and Industry’s office in Sandton today to take part in for a full day of presentations, panel discussions and networking hosted by the Black Business Council, a press release from the platform revealed today. The theme of the event is “Radical Economic Transformation- A Pathway to Economic Emancipation”.
