The sixth edition of the MTN Business App of the Year Awards was held last night in Johannesburg.
Although the overall winner for the night was Shyft, a Standard Bank project, a few startups managed to grab some accolades, including Hey Jude, OrderIn, EcoSlips and IntergreatMe.

On-demand delivery platform Zulzi was also crowned South Africa’s favourite app after it got 48 000 votes, clinching the People’s Choice category.

Best Breakthrough Developer
Zulzi: On-demand delivery platform for anything around your area from meals, groceries, liquor to pharmaceuticals.
Best South African App
Hey Jude: Virtual assistant with third party integration for Uber, OpenTable and other apps.
Women in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Solution
Oru Social: Multi-purpose social networking platform aimed at small businesses. Features include an online conferencing facility.
TouchSA: Aims to connect small businesses with opportunities locally and internationally.
Best Gaming Solution
Pick n Pay Super Animals 2: Rewards based game.
Best Agriculture Solution
The TreeApp South Africa: Allows users to discover and identify indigenous tree species.
Best Health Solution
WatIf Health Portal: A disease management solution designed for ordinary people, it requires input of basic clinical data from patients, and then processes it through an interactive medical knowledge system that is a part of WatIf artificial intelligence.
Best Education Solution
Awethu Project: Mobile business development tool aimed at educating people in developing economies on how to start and grow a business.
Best Financial Solution
Shyft for Standard Bank: Digital wallet that allows customers to handle all their forex needs from their phone, with no need to visit the bank.
