Four startups from Zanzibar event win chance to pitch at Seedstars Dar es Salaam
Seedstars World, one of the largest emerging market startup competitions, has selected four Tanzanian startups as the winners of last week’s Seedstars Zanzibar pitch event.
The four — Zanzibar Health Innovation, Nyumbani Care: Zanzibit and DroneWings — beat six other startups that pitched at the Seedstars Zanzibar pitch, held last Thursday (15 August) at Zanzibar’s Golden Tulip Stone Town Boutique Hotel.
Seedstars Dar es Salaam will take place this Friday (23 August)
Seedspace Dar es Salaam community manager Mohamed Shellimoh told Ventureburn in an email today that the four will now pitch at this Friday’s Seedstars Dar es Salaam event.
A panel of judges comprised of Human Development Innovation Fund social innovations advisor Simon Mtabazi, Seedstars regional partnerships manager for Africa Maryam Mgonja and D-Tree International logistics and administration assistant Moh’d Makame selected the four.
The winner of the Dar es Salaam event will receive an all-inclusive trip to represent Tanzania at the Seedstars Africa Summit which will be held in Johannesburg in December (see this story).
In addition, the winner will have the opportunity to be selected to join a three-month online growth programme as well as to attend the Global Seedstars Summit in Switzerland in April next year where the overall winner will take home a $500 000 investment prize.
Earlier this month, Ghanaian fintech startup Growth Factor won Seedstars Accra, beating eight other startup hopefuls (see this story).
In June, Kenyan peer-to-peer micro lending marketplace Pezesha was crowned the winner of this year’s Seedstars Nairobi pitching competition (see this story).
